Hoho - Progress!

Been busy (partial-)assembling the starter-fleets, since christmas. The models are pretty cool and have a lot of detail for that small scale without beeing off. Though they are not perfectly engineered, a few odd things there i encountered.

Although not 100% sold on the UCM stuff I grow more and more in love with them - for me they got the best kits, seconded by the SCOURGE fleet - just a few fiddly and snappy parts, one have to take care but no real show-stopper.

The SHALTARI are also great kits but the attached the mould injection to some of the really small pins alongside the central outline, wich is a real pain in the :bum: They snapp before you did cut a single piece, just from transport. Some snapped while trying to carefuly cutting pieces out. No chance to use a proper clipper. I think that silly, the models got some smaller fins wich are used to injected the material, but could be spread more even over the model to have a couple of more places to inject the material.

PHR got those Whale looking carapaced ships, why on earth would you put a injection pin on a convex piece? Pain in the :bum: + lots of greenstuffing and sanding I have to do before painting :finger:
That should be achieved easily by coming in from the backside of that piece, that's a flat surface :/

Though more wierd is that on some of the resin parts the pattern of the c&c-milling is visible, hope that will loose after painting. But it's only little resin parts mainly it's plastics.

All in all just some minor things.

Painting Theory:
I came from this idea, someone in the hawkforum also mentioned it:

and this

So I did this afterwards to get it "on the model":

This helped a lot for defining a scheme.

Now the olive-"Army"-scheme is dumped and the camouflaged standard so called "cannon"-scheme is online.
Base-colours laid out and gloss-varnished for washing, so it looks a bit off - plus crapy smartphone picture. After that I will lay out the colours for guns panels, etc. in light grey and white with a turqoise and light blue sheen for the energy crippling inside the guns and engines.

The civlian cruiser also gloss-varnished - this going to be just highlighted with minor details-mainly blue window-slits. I have a second one, I am open for suggestions on a colour scheme :)

Let me know that you think. busy to the a few more things done and at least to fleets ready for our hobby weekend end of february.

Those are pretty banner, looking on the pics have to say I'm not a huge fan of those smaller UCM sculpts, but as they are unpainted I'll reserve comment on them. Just look a bit meh to me. The larger ships are sweet though.

I'm not a huge fan of the shaltari concept art paint job either. But all
In all this looks promising.

Really like the UCM scheme you're going with.

For the second Civilian ship - how about a sort of pink, like the inside of a Conch Shell? The ship looks shell-like to me, very organic and I think it'd fit if done right.

Phill: Thanks :luv:

OSG: At first glance I wasn't overhelmed by the UCM, although i rahter liked the frigates then the cruisers, but now I am kinda sold on them :)

Do you mean my idea of the shaltari in blue green? I am open for suggestions. I thought the blue-green more appealing since I have quite many red armies... I saw a dude on the hawkforum doing them in purple and yellow - oh my those look dope, but i love it.

Dai: Pervert! I might do this >_> with a more redish or yellowish tone and the pattern on it... loveboat... there is this German TV-Show screening for 39.000 years now - "Das Traumschiff --> the dream ship" XD XD http://www.moviepilot.de/serie/das-trau ... deos/58616 wait for the adverts to complete... ohh my god these actors haunting German TV for decades :seppel:

Thank you for your comments :)

This one is for squigilly!

progress is going a bit slower than I hoped, but that normal I guess. Did a bit more airbrushing on the weekend and just started to grey-out guns and all the "bare metal" parts on some more ships.

I played around with some other camo-patterns, just mainly due to taping off geometrical patterns over the ships surface is rather tideous... for the couple of ships (Atlantis, Moscow, Berlin, Seattle, 2 Limas and 2 Toulons) it just took me over 2 evenings to finish the masking :?

So I took out my panzer putty and used it for the very first time, instead of my chieftains, i tested it on my ships. A few minor things went wrong with it, but all in all panzer putty is highly recomended! I think in future I will go on with a mix of the snake-pattern (Jakartas) and a simple stripe look (Taipei).

So now I have to go Full Speed ahead, since I need the minis end of February for a private gaming event and the scourge need to be done aswell :/

Let me know what you think. Honestly - hit me!
Cheers

Mina, the UMC are looking better painted, still like the bigger ships better.

On the shaltari it is more the fade paint scheme from one color to the next, not necessarily the colors themselves. Or it could be a combo of those colors and the fade scheme.

I like it Mina. Not too fantasy-silly, more utilitarian.

Keep up the good work. You sexi bastard you.

(That last part was Phill's fault. Peer pressure and all.)

'ello again,

have been a bit of silent around this log, although I have been working silently :)

First up, we have been two weeks a ago on a second nerd-weekend in the middle of nowhere (15km from Offenburg), in the black forest. That was a great sight and some lovely wheater. Sadly people tend to take no responsibilty in what they say and must be thinking that all comes just round the corner when you want it and for free. Some of them just said the miniute before "I have other plans", although we planned months ahead... last time I did this. Nonetheless we had quite some good fun with us four guys.

I was working on my UCM fleet, did some progress and almost finished the starter fleet. switched some focus though onto the bloodthirster I am painting for a friend - as he was requesting it - well after over a year ... :maple:

The plan is of finishing the great red one this or next week.

Then finish the DFC stuff, especially the UCM starter fleet (pics will follow).

Also got some of the scourge ships primed, for a date on last saturday, with a friend for playtesting. First game fixed him :) and was interesting also played relatively good. Although I guess we did some mistakes... but for a first game it worked. I especially like the activation, somtehing completely different from 40K, which does make the game more fluid for both players where you interact in a alternating fashion - one has not to wait for the others entire turn to complete - and you can react to what happens on the table and not just sit there see your Land Raider got just blown up and half of your army before you can ... yeah never mind.

Also what I liked, that the game suddenly got really brutal XD my heavy Cruiser got oblitearted in just one turn XD XD great move of my opponent.

He now is getting a starter set both for DFC and DZC. :agree:

pics!
