Spammers

Post by Stelio » Sun Jul 02, 2017 9:55 am

So I see that the recent spamming accounts have been deleted. Great. :finger:

Could you also delete their posts, please? These will contain keywords that their spamming algorithm searches for and latches onto, attracting it to create more spamming accounts here.

Hey Stelio, Thanks for your help finding the spambot posts.

Deleted the ones reported.
I'll have to scroll through the board to see for any other. Squig deleted the respective accounts.

We reported all the rogue posts. (I don't know who "we" are - some were already flagged when I got to them, and I made sure to flag every naughty post... well, except those posted by Martijn.)

Yeah I can ban naughty members and block their ip addresses, but not delete their posts, so that's Mina's job. The forum software is a bit basic in certain aspects. ;)

Sooo bloody russian spam-bots have been blasted. Hopefully.

Also changed the registration process to manually, Something I am not happy with, as I think you should be able to get started immediately upon registration. If the situation settles, I can turn it back to automatical registration.

What the ever loving fuck is going on with this amazing amount of spammers? Did they sell a link to our forums on the dark web or something. . . :eeek:

well, tried to find a bit more, sometimes such massing occurs wide spread over the entire interwebs. though I could not find anything specific. The really strange thing is that they don't are registered accounts. those just undermine registration and are "onboard". Not listed in the members section and such.

Will need to have a closer look the next days... there is soooo much to read about that topic and the different countermeasures. :(

I assumed that was because Squig was deleting the accounts really quickly.

If that's not the case, you'd better check for a new release of the underlying phpB code, as there may be a critical security vulnerability which has since been patched. (To be fair, it's worth making sure you're on the latest stable release anyway.)
